[Taxi News]: Cab Voucher Program Helps St. Patrick’s Day Revelers Get Home Safely

St. Patrick’s Day is a few days away, but already the bagpipes are playing and the green beer is flowing at bars in Columbus.

Several of the Irish pubs in town are passing out $10 taxi vouchers to make sure their customers don’t have to drive on the roads.

It was a sea of green inside and outside of Byrne’s Pub Saturday night as revelers celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Grandview.

Pub Owner Pat Byrne teamed up with Yellow Cab, German Village Taxi and Shamrock Taxi to make sure his customers get home safely.

“Drinking and driving has terrible consequences,” said Byrne. “It is a whole system of bad decisions that start off with that so we’re trying to do what we can actively here.”

Byrne added, “We’re trying to encourage the use of taxi cabs. We know people are out here celebrating and we want them to have fun and we want them to come back next year.”

The cab-voucher program was started a number of years ago by OhioHealth.

About 20 local pubs and restaurants have partnered with OhioHealth’s Central Ohio Safe Ride Advisory Council to create this year-round program.
